Why does my power keep tripping
A trip is a protective device operating, so the question is which device and why. A residual current device trips on earth leakage, often a faulty appliance. A circuit breaker trips on overload or a short. Resetting without identifying which one operated defers the fault rather than fixing it.
What actually happens
- Identify which device operated: RCD (earth leakage) or MCB (overload or short).
- Unplug everything on that circuit, reset, then reintroduce appliances one at a time.
- A trip that recurs immediately with nothing plugged in points at fixed wiring, not an appliance.
- Repeated tripping is information. Treat it as a diagnosis, not a nuisance.
